Educational Opportunities

Our Pediatric Emergency Medicine fellows have the unique opportunity to participate in a training program that combines the educational experience of a high volume, high acuity, community-centric, urban children's’ hospital with that of a university-based medical center, rich in clinical, educational and investigative resources.

UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospitals are comprised of two nationally recognized pediatric tertiary care centers (Oakland & San Francisco) with over 50 medical and surgical sub-specialties, including the only regional American College of Surgeons certified Level 1 Pediatric Trauma Center. Each site possesses a dedicated Pediatric Emergency Department, with a combined 60 beds to accommodate approximately 70,000 visits per year.

The Division of Pediatric Emergency Medicine is comprised of 28 board certified Pediatric Emergency Medicine physicians with specific interests in asthma, sepsis, bronchiolitis, mental health services, head injury, trauma, sickle cell disease, toxicology, pediatric emergency ultrasound, global health, EMS/disaster medicine, child abuse, alternative medicine pain management, quality improvement, health informatics and medical education/simulation.
