How to Apply

ERAS Application

All applications to the Pediatric Residency Program at Children's are processed through the Electronic Resident Application System (ERAS).

Applicants register with ERAS through their medical schools, complete the ERAS application, and choose to send an application to "Children's Hospital Oakland".

Applications are considered complete when they include two letters of recommendation and a Dean's Letter in addition to all parts of the standard ERAS application.

Applicant Review and Interview

In February, applicants enter their rank list, and our Intern Selection Committee meets to rank applicants. Completed applications are screened, and applicants are informed by email if they are being invited to interview.

In March, applicants and programs are informed of the Match by the NRMP. If we select you for an interview, we will contact you. You may schedule your interview by contacting the program coordinator, Katherine Castillo, for any day between November 1 and mid-January.

Visiting Children's

If you plan to visit Children's, there are many hotels available in Oakland and Berkeley. Although travel expenses are not reimbursed, many hotels in the area offer a discount rate for people with ties to Children's.

Transfer Applicants

If you're interested in transferring to our program, we periodically have open second and third-year positions. These openings are generally for the beginning of the academic year, but they occasionally occur at other times. Applicants must be in good standing at their previous program.
