How to Apply
ERAS Application
All applications to the Pediatric Residency Program at
Children's are processed through the Electronic Resident Application System (ERAS). Applicants register with ERAS through their medical schools, complete the ERAS
application, and choose to send an application to "UCSF Benioff
Children's Hospital Oakland."
All applications are reviewed holistically and there is no cut-off for
testing or rotation scores. Applications are considered complete when they
include three letters of recommendation and a Dean's Letter in addition to all
parts of the standard ERAS application.
Applicants must have successfully completed USMLE Step 1 or COMLEX 1 to apply
to the program. It is strongly recommended that applicants complete USMLE Step
2 CK or COMLEX 2 early enough to ensure passing scores are available for review
by mid-February.
Applicant Review and Interview Process
Once ERAS opens, we conduct a comprehensive and holistic review of completed applications. Applicants are notified via email if they are selected for interviews so be sure to indicate your preferred email address on your ERAS application.
The AAMC, in collaboration with the AMA and NRMP, has recommended that all GME programs conduct virtual interviews for all applicants for the 2024-2025 interview season. They discourage hybrid interviewing or second looks to ensure fairness, and minimize inequity and stress among applicants. Our program abides by these recommendations and interviews are conducted virtually from late October to early January with breaks over the holidays.
Applicant Interview Days consist of an information session (with program directors and a chief resident with time for Q&A), two interviews with faculty/ alumni, and a wrap up session with residents.
Applicants are also welcome to attend virtual social events and/or Open House evenings.
In February, applicants enter their rank list, and our Intern Selection Committee meets to rank applicants.
In March, applicants and programs are informed of the Match results by the NRMP.
Please note, if you are a graduate of a medical or osteopathic school other than those in the US or Canada, you must follow different procedures before applying to the program.
