Letter from the Program Directors

Thank you for your interest in the Pediatric Residency Program at UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital Oakland. We have had a Pediatric Residency Program at Children’s for almost 100 years and have trained well over 1,300 pediatricians, who have become leaders in many fields, advancing health equity and advocating for children and families. The program is recognized as one of the leading pediatric training programs in the nation.

We hope these web pages provide you with up-to-date information about our residency program, give you some insight into how our residents thrive during the challenges of residency, and are very well prepared for the whole spectrum of career paths in pediatrics.

There is a special quality about this hospital that comes from our mission to provide outstanding equitable care to all patients with a lens of cultural humility. The combination of being a safety-net hospital, major referral center and level 1 trauma center provides a rich educational atmosphere. Since residents do almost all of their rotations on our campus, they quickly become part of our close-knit family full of team spirit and we celebrate the diversity of our backgrounds and experiences.

We have a strong commitment to train a diverse group of residents and encourage students from communities that have been historically underrepresented and represent the populations we serve to apply.

We welcome your application to UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital Oakland and look forward to meeting you.

Sincerely,
